In plantation days, the dismantling and reassembling of chattel houses was once seen as a community event.Sadly, this is of the past due to the fact that persons have purchased their own land and the legislation put it in place. It was a regular and important occurrence which took place on sundays with the assistance of men from the community and completed the same day. While labourers were not paid like carpenters, they were given a meal. This community spirit has seemed to vanish.
