Summary Writing

          Week iv                                     Steps to writing an accurate Summary a) Examine the title for information on what the passage is about.  b) Read the entire passage and note the writer's purpose or intent. ( This will assist you in formulating a topic sentence) c ) Read the passage again, this time underline the main idea, and major supporting details in each paragraph. (The main idea may be implicit and not explicit.) d) Using your own word, summarise the passage. Begin with a topic sentence. e) Keep the same general order as the original. f) Rephrase and rearrange sentences by replacing clauses and phrases with single words. g) Delete repetitions. h) Revise your draft and pay attention to the word count.   Read this passage and identify the main idea.
